Redrow Homes
The redevelopment of a brownfield site adjacent to the Birmingham Canal. An important development planned to deliver the first phase of Wolverhampton City Councils Canalside Urban Regeneration Strategy integrating the industrial heritage of the Canalside Quarter within the City Centre.
A relatively high density urban development designed and planned in the form of a three and four storey perimeter development connected by landscaped courts and residents parking.
The development included the restoration and conversion of the Grade 2 Listed Albion Mill building located in the heart of the development. The development has successfully integrated the Mill Buildings with the contemporary apartment blocks. The palette of materials were selected to reflect the industrial character of the area and includes a mix of red/brown brickwork, white render, reconstituted stone detailing.
Powder coated grey frames to glazed screens and windows and galvanised metal balconies combine with the brickwork and render to present an active frontage onto the Public Realm. The development is planned to ensure good connectivity with the surrounding areas and incorporate a network of public pedestrian footpaths through the site. This important strategic development site was planned in consultation with the Planning and Conservation Departments at Wolverhampton City Council.
The contemporary development responds sympathetically and positively to its setting and greatly enhances and revitalises this area of the city of Wolverhampton.
