Stoke City Council
Stoke Local Service Centre in the heart of Stoke on Trent is a state of the art information building which signals the start of regeneration for the town. Through its sustainable environmentally friendly design it has been awarded a Carbon Trust Grant and has achieved a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’.
BBLB have worked closely in partnership with the City of Stoke to deliver the building from inception to completion, coordinating and managing the design process to provide a highly sustainable, exemplar building that demonstrates the use of low to zero carbon technology and considered passive design measures.
The building minimises the demand for energy by providing natural ventilation, good day lighting and high levels of insulation, and includes: Sedum Nature Roof, Sunpipes, Wind catchers, Energy Efficient Lighting & PIR taps and dual flush toilets. Working with the Carbon Trust we secured additional funding for the project to incorporate a number of sustainable technologies: Ground Source Heat Pumps, Photovoltaic panels, Solar Thermal Panels & Rainwater harvesting.
Stoke Local Service Centre was officially opened by Ian Austin (Regional Minister for the West Midlands) who said: “This building is a great example of environmental construction and a wonderful facility for local people. It celebrates the city’s past by finding a new use for the historic Stoke market hall.”
