Dronfield Foundry

Derbyshire

William Lee Ltd

William Lee Ltd commissioned a new foundry to be built at Dronfield near Chesterfield to compliment the existing 3 foundries already operating on the site.

The new building consists of 5200m2 of foundry space together with 1040m2 of office and ancillary accommodation with ‘state of the art’ machinery being imported from Germany. Planning was granted with full support of the committee as this project was seen as a source of additional jobs in the Dronfield area.

Nevertheless there were some 38 Conditions attached to the Planning Approval. This scheme was set up as a fast track project and all parties signed up to the ethos. Working drawings were prepared during the planning process and commissioning of the furnaces took place a month before handover which was achieved within 10 months and ahead of programme.

This timescale could not have been met without meticulous planning which included various factors from pre-ordering the steel frame to importing ‘state of the art’ moulding lines and furnaces from Germany all of which had to be manufactured and delivered to site at the correct time to meet the build programme.
